Letter to the Editor
My neighbor's porch light meant everything
Site Administrator · Minneapolis, MN · June 4, 2026
Dear Editor,
I walk home from the late shift at 2 a.m. Most nights the block is dark. Mrs. Nguyen leaves her porch light on until she sees me turn my key. We never planned it. One winter I thanked her; she said, "My daughter worked nights too."
That light is a small thing that makes a big difference. Safety is not only police and cameras. Sometimes it is a neighbor who remembers what it feels like to walk home alone.
