Use of AI

We know AI is a controversial topic with serious ethical and environmental impacts. We want to be clear about its role in American Reality Today.

We use AI as a background tool—to help write code, help design some graphics, and help power our safety and fact-checking systems. We also know many of our contributors will periodically use AI to refine their writing. However, AI will never replace human observation. Our goal is to publish original writing and genuine, first-person experiences from real people.

We strongly support both industry-initiated propposals and legislative safeguards that will assure the common-sense application of this new and rapidly expanding tool including financial accountability for data centers and AI companies. The companies that benefit from this new technology must pay for all the costs involved in it's implementation and operation - including all of the energy and other resources and retraining for those employees who lose their jobs.

America has weathered technological shifts before, and by staying rooted in real-world facts, we can build a safer, environmentally respoinsible and more accountable future together - including pointing out the role AI has had in our lives.
