PURPOSE
We’re doing this because our ability to talk honestly about what’s happening — even when we disagree — is essential to all of us and to our collective experiment in American democracy. Today, truth has been politicized, outrage has become a business model, and far too many people feel unheard or misled. Those feelings are real, even when the viral stories behind them aren’t.
A.R.T. was created so visitors can share their own stories — letters, photos, and everyday observations — about what life really looks like where they live. This matters because seeing one another clearly leaves less room for distortion and misinformation to invent enemies, fuel resentment, or block our ability to solve real problems together.
A.R.T. is funded by its founders and organized as a C corporation to ensure independence, transparency, and flexibility, helping keep it free from influence by government, donors, or political parties.
When future generations look back and ask what we were doing at this pivotal moment in our history, we want to be able to say we participated in a project that helped people contribute their real-life observations, letters, and photos to the national conversation — informing today’s debates while creating a permanent record of this time.
